Common Cleaning Questions You Are Embarrassed To Ask Your Friends

  1. Do I dust or vaccum first? Vaccuming should be the second to last step in your cleaning routine. (mopping being last) If you were to vaccum prier to dusting, then you are risking getting debris of dust and dirt on your freshly vaccumed floor.

  2. How often do I change my dish sponge? Your dish sponge, along with any other wet item, will harbor bacteria the fastest. It is recommended to change our sponge every week, or every two weeks max to keep your sponges and dishes as sanitary as possible.

  3. Why does my dishwasher stink? You should be cleaning your dishwasher filter, which can trap food particles from your dishes. It is common for people to forget to clean their dishwasher filter, just like they forget to empty their lint trap in the dryer. A filter on a dishwasher should be checked and cleaned on a weekly basis to prevent sour food smells.

  4. I notice my towels tend to make my bathroom smell when in the dirty clothes basket. How often do I need to wash my towels? Towels should be washed once a week. Most households will throw their towels in the hamper after use. A way to prevent smells between washes is to hang your towel to dry, before throwing it in the hamper. This prevents mildew and bacteria.

  5. How do I clean my tv without damaging the screen? When cleaning your tv you never want to spray anything directly on the screen. The best way to clean your tv is by spraying distilled water on a microfiber towel, then gently wipping it down from one side the the other in a straight motion.

  6. Cleaning is overwhelming, but it has to be done. How can I get everything done without wasting my free day? Don't try and wait to do everything at once. Clean as you go. Start off cleaning a little at a time until you have a daily routine of small easy cleaning. Assign one or two rooms to each day. If you clean as you go, pick up after yourself immediately, do dishes as they come, keep the trash emptied before it piles up, ect. it will make a deeper clean for a specific room each day take less than an hour (depending on the size of your space).

  7. How can I remove marks off my wall without messing up the paint? As crazy as it sounds, you can use soft white bread to remove scuff marks on painted walls. You just easily rub a balled up piece of white bread and use it like a magic eraser. It kind of makes you wonder if you should eat white bread knowing it can clean walls. lol

  8. How can I prevent bringing so much dirt into my house? Machine washable doormats are a great trick if you wash them regularly. If you have pets be sure to brush them out, and wipe off their paws before they come inside, also wipe and sweep daily to prevent dirt build up.

  9. What is the germiest place in the kitchen? The sink is the germiest place in the kitchen. As we know wet areas are a breeding ground for bacteria. You have to make sure you are cleaning your sink regularly, do not leave dishes in the sink overnight no matter how tired you are, and change those sponges out regularly.

  10. Can I clean with just disinfecting wipes? Disinfecting wipes are great, however they are for sanitation, not cleaning. You always need to clean before you santize, otherwise you are being counterproductive. You need to clean, and then wipe down with disinfecting wipes, allowing them to dry on their own. The chemicals are doing the work while drying. Drying it off yourself is the same as wasting the wipe.
